What is Open Therm?
Open Therm was invented by Honeywell over 20 years ago and has since been established across many Thermostat systems including Nest, EvoHome, Valiant and not forgetting Honeywell.
It is a name given to the digital language which a boiler uses to communicate with the controller, though each brand has created their own language, they have classed it as modulating thermostats.
How Does Open Therm work?
In very simple terms, the communication between the boiler and controller allows you to adjust the radiator temperature automatically, allowing the desired air temperature to pass the system and also giving you better energy efficiency.
The advantages of this allows the right amount of heat to circulate in the desired area without overheating the room. It keeps a constant, consistent temperature so you’re not sitting in an uncomfortably warm or cold conditions. With this in mind you are lowering gas bills as the room is automatically managed by the Open Therm system.
Our final say…
Modern boilers are all designed to work with modulating thermostats. Though it’s slightly more expensive than a traditional thermostat, but you will instantly see advantages to switching to a modern boiler system.
